Abstract
Mobile wallets have transformed into a vital factor in modernizing the hospitality and tourism industries throughout the global landscape. Mobile wallet usage among Macau tourist visitors in hospitality settings shows minimal acceptance with little research conducted on this topic. The research examines Macau hotel visitors' adoption behaviors of mobile wallet technology through a combination of Mobile Technology Acceptance Model (MTAM) and self-efficacy theory linked with critical mass theory and flow theory. This study fills noticeable research gaps by exploring the relationship between Mobile Usefulness Perceptions and Mobile Ease of Use and Mobile Self-Efficacy and Technological Self-Efficacy on hotel guest intentions to use mobile wallets in Macau hotels. An inductive method was selected to reach these goals by developing structured data collection surveys for Macau tourism visitors. Survey participants received a questionnaire based on validated tools which aimed to collect primary data from Macau visitors selected through a representative survey.
The quantitative research data acquired from survey participants underwent thorough statistical processing involving regression analysis which established links between essential research elements. The analysis results demonstrated that Mobile Utilitarianism and Mobile Efficacy Overcoming Uncertainty both strongly impact tourists' willingness to use mobile wallets. The study shows Mobile and Technological Self-Efficacy function as essential promoting factors that boost tourists' comfort and confidence regarding mobile wallet use. These results establish how users experience directly influences the relationship between ease-of-use perceptions and usefulness beliefs and the adoption intention.
The research details the complete scope of barriers which limit the adoption of mobile wallets through findings about user security fears and privacy apprehensions and trust deficiency among consumers. Tourists express security and privacy concerns about mobile wallets even though these systems offer convenience and efficiency for service delivery because of which they show limited acceptance. The trust of users depends on security improvements together with clear communication strategy and strict privacy policies which become mandatory for expanding mobile wallet usage.
This research enhances technology acceptance literature with substantial theoretical value through flow theory integration to demonstrate consumer psychological processes in decision-making. The research brings forward user experience considerations to enrich understanding of technology adoption in hospitality specifically because comfort and convenience play major roles in acceptance.
The study reveals important practical information that benefits hospitality managers while helping marketers and mobile wallet service providers in Macau and related markets. The particular determinants which affect mobile wallet adoption by tourists enable stakeholders to create targeted programs that will improve usability and better satisfy tourist requirements. The successful adoption requires promotional strategies aligned with user-friendly interfaces combined with extensive customer assistance and specialized marketing efforts that will reduce user hesitations and boost the adoption figures.
This research enhances modern knowledge about mobile wallet adoption in tourism and hospitality including Macau despite its specific environment. The research provides both theoretical and practical elements which establish an empirical base for mobile wallet adoption studies conducted by future researchers. The research presents essential strategic industry implications that show the way organizations should improve customer experiences and market competitiveness in digital and technological environments.
