Abstract
Retail shop fires of different sizes and ventilation conditions will be simulated with the zone model FIREWIND. Times to flashover in those shops are estimated from 1760 simulations under four sets of NFPA t2 fires. From the results, correlations for the flashover time with the geometry of the shop are derived. Effects of operating the smoke control system at different ventilation rates are also simulated. Integrating the sprinkler system with the smoke control system in a shop is discussed by referring to their relative times of operation. Correlation equations on the flashover time with other parameters useful to building authorities are derived.
