Abstract

This paper studied the influence of low temperature plasma (LTP) on the structural composition of wool fibre. Plasma gas of different nature was used and it was found that the structural compositions of LTP-treated wool fibres were altered differently. The X-ray analysis as well as the birefringence measurement provided the information of the variation of the molecular structure of the LTP treated wool fibre. It was found that although the LTP treatment was thought to have been a surface modification treatment, it could also alter the molecular structure of the wool fibre to certain extent.
