Will GIS become as simple to use as a web browser? Integration of hyper-information and GI-systems

Research output: Journal article publicationJournal articleAcademic researchpeer-review

    Abstract

Based on the introduction of the hyper-information concepts and examination of the needs of GIS for these concepts, three levels of integration of hyper-information with GIS can be distinguished. In the first stage - client-server integration - the hyper-system is the client and GIS is used as the server. The second stage - system-level integration - can be achieved by introducing a hyper-information organisational structure into GIS. The model-level integration is the final stage of integration. This is a revolutionary integration involving a new spatial data model which must be developed based on the integration of the traditional spatial data model with hyper-information.
