Abstract
In this paper, a broadband high efficiency Class-F -1 power amplifier (PA) based on sequential coupled bandpass filtering (BPF) matching network is proposed. This filter is employed not only to realize the third harmonic manipulation and the output impedance matching but also to provide flat bandpass responses for whole PA. To fulfill the requirements of high efficiency Class-F −1 PAs, second harmonic control network is also integrated in PA. The sequential coupled filter composed of six resonators is characterized based on filter synthesis theory. Each resonator of the filter consists of a grounded inductive stub and a pair of shunt connected capacitively loaded stub. The short connecting lines between each resonator allow the filter a wide spurious free stopband, which improves filtering performance. Finally, a filtering PA operating at 2.25 GHz is designed and measured. Experimental results verify a wide bandwidth from 1.8 GHz to 2.7GHz, with simulated drain efficiency of 62.7%–79.4 %, the output power of 39.5–40.3 dBm and power gain of 9.5–10.5dB.
