Abstract

A time-frequency tool based on wavelet analysis is employed to investigate the dynamic responses of concentrically-braced frames tested in shake table tests. It is shown that the application of wavelet analysis allows yielding and buckling events to be detected from a limited set of measurements, namely ground and building floor accelerations. This is achieved by comparing frequency-banded wavelet coefficients of the ground motion, elastic frame response and inelastic frame response, and by evaluating the corresponding energy contributions of the different frequency bands.
