Video teaching materials for leadership education: Subjective outcome evaluation based on university students in Hong Kong

Leadership education is critical to the promotion of holistic development in university students. To provide effective leadership education, development of useful teaching materials, particularly video, is indispensable. Besides motivating students to learn, videos on leadership also play an important role in online learning, particularly under the pandemic. As such, we have created 15 animated videos and nine case-based videos on leadership development based on several positive youth development (PYD) attributes, such as intrapersonal competence (e.g., resilience and moral competence) and interpersonal competence (e.g., cultural competence and team building). In this study, data were collected from students (N = 716 to 987) based on the subjective outcome evaluation approach. It was found that students had highly positive appraisal of the quality and benefits received from watching the 24 videos. Compared to our previous research study on the 24 videos delivered in synchronous online classes, this study evaluated the videos offered in face-to-face classes and found significantly improved subjective outcome evaluation of the 24 videos.
