Abstract

This introductory chapter provides a detailed overview of how COVID-19 has impacted on translation and interpreting (T&I) practice, teaching and research. While recognizing the challenges and threats imposed by COVID-19, this chapter also highlights the opportunities brought on by this unprecedented pandemic. Specif-ically, COVID-19 has served as a catalyst for accelerating the adoption of technology in both T&I practice and teaching. Following the overview of the key issues facing T&I in the context of COVID-19, we have given a brief summary of the contribu-tions selected for this edited volume. It is hoped that by providing first hand accounts of T&I research and practice across different nations in the age of COVID-19, we are able to paint a more complete and clearer picture of the impact the pandemic is having on T&I.
