title = "Transforming Reminiscence Therapy: Designing An Adaptive VR System based on Older Adults' Emotional Connections and Narrative Patterns",
abstract = "Virtual Reality reminiscence therapy shows promise for supporting emotional wellbeing in older adults, yet existing systems often lack personalization and long-term engagement capabilities. We developed an adaptive VR-based reminiscence therapy (VRRT) system that addresses these limitations through three key innovations: (1) scenario progression that evolves from simple object recognition to complex narrative reconstruction, (2) collaborative tools designed to enable intergenerational storytelling, and (3) multi-modal memory triggers enhancing emotional recall. Through focus groups with 18 older adults, we identified distinctive recall patterns, including contextual deduction using historical markers and strong emotional connections to domestic and community spaces. Our findings demonstrate how age-inclusive interaction paradigms can transform static reminiscence into dynamic, personalized experiences. This work advances VR therapy by bridging the gap between technological capability and older adults' diverse reminiscence needs.",
