Abstract

Fine-coarse vector quantization (FCVQ) is a fast method for searching an unstructured vector quantization codebook. This approach imposes slight distortion to the image and requires substantially large storage. The storage requirement restricts the dimension of the vector blocks hence the performance of this quantization scheme. In this paper, the FCVQ is designed in the transform domain (FCVQ-TB) to provide a possible solution to the problem on memory requirement. Experiments are given to evaluate the performance of the FCVQ-TB.
