Abstract

The thermal diffusivities along the length (D3), width (D1) and thickness (D2) of an injection-moulded liquid crystalline polymer bar have been measured by flash radiometry. By focusing the infra-red detector system on various points of the sample, the spatial variation of D1, D2and D3has been determined with a resolution better than 0.3 mm. The skin layer is found to be highly anisotropic, with D2:D1:D3= 1:2.3:7, whereas the core region is essentially isotropic.
