Abstract

Destination curiosity, defined as the travel enthusiasm reflecting a curious behavior that explores and seeks fulfillment in acquiring knowledge through the actual travel experience at the destination, has two dimensions. Incorporating Fine's clockspeed model and considering the two dimensions of destination curiosity—complexity and diversity—four categories of destination curiosity were recognized based on latent class analysis using the Bayesian Information Criterion (BIC) and the Akaike Information Criterion (AIC). Accordingly, four types of travelers were defined according to their levels of destination curiosity—namely, travel enthusiasts, travel samplers, travel neutrals, and travel averse.
