N1 - Funding Information: Last but not least, we were extremely grateful to ECF of the Hong Kong SAR Government and the Croucher Foundation for their generous financial supports that enabled us to invite 67 experts from Australia, Belgium, China, Hong Kong, Israel, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Norway, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, UK, and USA to share their expertise and latest research discoveries at the BECoME-2022 Conference. With the kind support from ECF and the Croucher Foundation, our conference registration fee could be set at a very affordable price that encouraged more people, especially research students and young scientists to join this meeting from developing nations worldwide. Finally, we would also like to specially thank Dr Siu Fai Leung (Director of Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department of the Hong Kong SAR Government), Professor Michael Yang (Vice-President (Research & Technology) of City University of Hong Kong), Professor Karen Cheung (Executive President & Secretary-General of the UNESCO Hong Kong Association) and Professor Rudolf Wu (Advisory, Education University of Hong Kong) for officiating at the opening ceremony of BECoME-2022 Conference. We are very thankful to all of the invited speakers and scholars for their inspirational presentations, intellectual exchange of ideas, and efforts to make this conference a big success. We were also grateful to Dr Juan Carlos Astudillo and his team for organising the eco-shoreline workshop, Dr David Baker, Dr John Cybulski and Professor Jed Sparks for leading the training workshop on stable isotope analysis, and the World Wildlife Fund – Hong Kong for organising the workshop on marine spatial planning in Hong Kong. We would also like to thank the State Key Laboratory of Marine Pollution (SKLMP), City University of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Marine Ecological Association for generously offering the Professor Brian Morton Awards for the Best Student Presentation (Regular Session) and the Hong Kong Marine Ecological Association Awards for the Best Student Presentation (Short Session), respectively. Additionally, we would like to take this opportunity to thank the many staff and students of SKLMP, in particular, Ms Grace Chau, Ms May Ng, Ms Sora Cheung and Dr Leo Chan for their tremendous efforts and dedication in organising this conference. Ms Haiyan Sun (Elsevier) and her team were gratefully acknowledged for allowing us to publish the conference proceedings of BECoME-2022 Conference as a virtual special issue in Regional Studies in Marine Science. We look forward to the organisation of the third BECoME Conference in face-to-face mode in near future.
