The "Octopus" family therapy

Abstract

This chapter tries to extract and assimilate the strengths of different schools of family therapy and ideology so as to create a new approach, namely, the Octopus Approach to Family Therapy. Each letter of the term "Octopus" represents a particular blend of knowledge for family therapy. Seven main areas for constructing the Octopus Approach are: O stands for ongoing that family therapy is a never ending and life-long process. C stands for the Calgary Family Intervention Model (CFIM) which is a comprehensive intervention model and initiates three areas (cognitive, affective and behavioral) of changes. T stands for therapeutic goals. O stands for offering support during the counseling process. P stands for Primary Health Care. U stands for understanding and unfolding clients' story. S stands for the Satir Model.
