Abstract

In this chapter, the authors highlight the considerable issues that the Metaverse will face in the future in terms of ethics, governance, and security and privacy concerns. In addition, they take into account the tendencies and strategies that are now being implemented by existing online worlds as part of their solutions and research routes to allow a more sustainable Metaverse. The authors pose questions to the community about important facets of the administration and design of an accessible and inclusive Metaverse. A study of the existing approaches that online social media and gaming platforms are using to govern themselves and the societal implications that these approaches have on users is something that may be done before an investigation into the possibilities of governance in the Metaverse. The authors discuss a basic concept for an ethically designed Metaverse that is built on a modular structure.
