Abstract

Personal interviews and postal questionnaires have been used to determine the degree of development, perception and present status of just-in-time (JIT) production in the Hong Kong electronics industry. Results of the study show that the electronics manufacturers are fully aware of JIT and its benefits. However, the absence of coordinating efforts renders a full-scale JIT development among the manufacturers impossible. While no presentable success stories of local JIT implementation can be identified from the study, some attraction of JIT implementation and production are highlighted as encouragement for manufacturers contemplating adoption of JIT.
