Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the influence of fine arts on fashion and textile design from 1960's to the present. This paper will concentrate on several art movements, named Pop Art, Op Art, Minimal Art and Postmodernism that inspire fashion and textile designers when creating their new designs. The philosophies of these art movements will be explored. The design concepts underlying fashion and textile design will be discussed by reference to specific design examples. The notions of what is culturally viewed as art and what is viewed as design will be addressed. The issue of originality in design will also be examined.
