Abstract

Stress concentration factors (SCF) and fatigue life are two main aspects of studying fatigue behavior of tubular joints based on hot spot stress method. 8 welded CHS-SHS concrete filled T-joints were tested under static loading to determine stress concentration factors at hot spot locations and were also tested under cyclic loading to obtain fatigue life data. The results were compared with those for T-joints made of circular hollow section to square hollow section (CHS-SHS) and no concrete filled. The test results indicated that the CHS-SHS concrete filled T-joints exhibit evident improvements in rigidity distribution and have better anti-fatigue performance than the T-joints made of CHS-SHS and no concrete filled do; S-N curves of hollow section tubular T-joints in the relevant codes are not suitable for fatigue performance analysis of CHS-SHS concrete filled T-joints.
