Abstract
The temporal behavior of the spatial distribution of xenon metastable atoms was analyzed using infrared (IR) laser absorption spectroscopy. A cold cathode xenon low pressure lamp was fabricated with a xenon pressure of 2.7 kPa. It was observed that the metastable atom distribution changed its shape very much between 10 μs and 20 μs. The results show that metastable atoms density is higher at the center than outside due to recombination between electrons and ions.
