Abstract
In this concluding chapter, we discuss future perspectives of technology applications in operations management. We first highlight a few latest developments and trends in technology adoption, contextualized by current industry practices and challenges. Next, we focus on four rapidly evolving themes, they are: sustainability, resilience, human-machine collaboration, and cyber-security, and then review the latest studies from the operations management literature. Furthermore, we present the future perspectives on the key topics addressed in the featured chapters of this book section. Finally, we conclude this chapter and book section by proposing some promising future research directions.
