Teaching hope when dealing with student mental health and nurturing neuroplasticity using cartoons

Research output: Chapter in book / Conference proceedingChapter in an edited book (as author)Teaching and learningpeer-review

Abstract

More and more of my students at all levels (BBA, Masters...) are experiencing mental health issues and this has made our role as educators incredibly challenging. Building on my life's work on FOCUSED, I started to use "cartoons" as a more "playful" way to let their barriers down and go back to the whole point of learning – where it needs to be fun and inviting... The chapter aim to advocate treating serious topics such as mental health issues and learning challenges in a non-serious, yet deeply meaningful ways can provide an alternative to "being
and BECOMING" a better version of oneself... and in the process, nurture better strategists, strategic thinkers (in both our students and our educators). The chapter’s contribution is conceptually grounded and practically useful for strategy educators designing and delivering strategy course (and beyond).
