Abstract

The reaction of [(diphenylphosphino)cyclopentadienyl]thallium [Tl(C5H4PPh2)] with metallic europium or ytterbium powder in THF (tetrahydrofuran) at 60°C in the presence of metallic mercury, followed by crystallization from a mixture of dimethoxyethane and diethylene glycol dimethyl ether (DIME) (10: 1), afforded [(η5-C5H4PPh2)2Eu(DIME)] 1 and [(η5-C5H4PPh2)2Yb(DIME)] 2 respectively. Crystal and molecular structures of 1 and 2 have been determined by X-ray crystallography.
