Abstract

Surface characteristic change of SiC reinforced Mg-alloy composite induced by excimer laser surface treating was investigated. Excimer laser irradiation caused the melting of matrix metal and the forming of metal vapor plasma just above the laser irradiation zone. Results showed that Si and C decomposed by laser beam may react with O2in air and silicon oxide.
