Abstract

Air source heat pump water heater/chiller units are increasingly popular in recent decades. However, the investigation of its operating performance under frosting available in open literature is very little. In the paper, the dynamic mathematical model of ASHPWHC unit under frosting was developed. It consists of a compressor sub-model, as well as sub-models of airside heat exchanger under frosting, waterside heat exchanger, and expansion valve. The performance of ASHPWHC unit under frosting, such as airflow rate, air pressure drop and amount of heating, etc. vs. time, under different ambient condition, were evaluated by using the model. The results will provide basis to take effective measures for defrosting control, thus increasing energy efficiency and protecting environment.
