Abstract
The possibility of flashover in compartment fires was investigated using two criteria established earlier. A single zone model was used for the simulation of a compartmental fire. Two key equations describing thermal aspects were derived and simplified in acceptable forms of analysis. Parameters in the equations were studied under four cases of different total heat release and intake mass flow rates. Transient values of fire temperatures were calculated. Phase space diagrams for fire temperatures and their time rate of change were analyzed.
