Abstract

Different structural characteristics between sandwich deck and bonded pultruded deck, which are two major types of fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) bridge decks in the world, are compared and analyzed. The structure and the FRP deck of the West Mill bridge, the first expressway FRP bridge in Europe, are introduced. The mechanical properties, design, manufacture and optimization of the FRP bridge deck are discussed.
