Abstract

This paper presents a new approach based on eigenvalue sensitivity analysis for static VAR compensator (SVC) design. Since the SVC instability is detected during the design process, the design (structure and setting) is achieved through the combined sensitivity coefficient (CSC) which can automatically take into account the damping of both the inter-area and SVC modes. The setting is said to be optimal when the CSCs with respect to all damping controller parameters approach zero.
