Solution distribution strategy-based structural optimizations in liquid desiccant dehumidification systems: A review

Abstract

The efficient operation of liquid desiccant dehumidification systems requires the input of external energy. Unique solution distribution strategies show great promise in reducing energy consumption and enhancing sustainability for it. This review examines the development of solution transport and distribution structures within liquid desiccant dehumidification systems, aiming to establish a foundation for their design and operation. This review begins with an overview of different solution transport structures and distribution strategies, comprehensively summarizing their functional characteristics and features. Subsequently, this review briefly introduces the working principles of system self-balancing and the regulation characteristics of equilibrium concentration, highlights the impact of it on energy savings, control, and concentration regulation, which are crucial for guiding future design improvements. Additionally, to highlight the cumulative energy-saving potential of solution transport structures, this review designs an evaluation scheme to explore their performance in terms of moisture removal rate, energy consumption, and energy utilization efficiency. Therefore, this review work concludes with some recommendations on solution transport and distribution structures for solution distribution and offers crucial perspectives for future optimization directions. By presenting this comprehensive review, this work may facilitate the development and optimization of multifunctional compact dehumidification systems.
