Abstract
A new novel ring spinning technology has been developed by a research team led by Professor X M Tao from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (HK PolyU). The Nu-Torque spinning unit is designed for the production of low-torque single soft yarns in a single step on a ring spinning machine. It demonstrated that modified cotton yarns and fabrics have significant advantages such as softer handle, higher yarn tenacity, and lower knitted fabric spirality after washing, over conventional counterparts. The new technology can also facilitate production of much thinner and lighter knitted fabrics in the finer cotton yarn sector.
