Abstract

Part one (June issue) reviewed the research, manufacture and application of passive smart textiles. This article introduces active smart, textiles, which have both actuators and sensors. Some examples of the active type of smart textiles are reviewed: Shape memory, chameleonic, water resistant and vapour-permeable (hydrophilic/nonporous), heat-storage and thermoregulated fabrics.
