Abstract
Isothermal sintering experiments were conducted to study the effect of sintering time and temperatures on the densification of pure and 0.25% Co-doped CeO2. Co-doped CeO2were synthesized by the conventional mixed-oxide method and the pressureless sintering studies were performed in a dialtometer. Microstructure of the well-polished samples after thermal etching was observed using scanning electron microscopy. It was shown that the the addition of Co shifted the onset of sintering towards lower temperatures, while small amount of Co doping decreased the temperature of maximum shrinkage rate.
