N2 - Functional nanomaterials based on graphite and/or noble metals are of great interest because not only are they used as electrical or thermal conductive fillers in polymer nanocomposites, they can also serve as electro-active materials in energy-related applications. In this work, novel silver/carbon composites were processed by a facile hydrothermal method and then characterized by a range of analytical techniques, such as XRD, SEM, TEM, EDX, and DSC. It was found that various shapes of silver particles including nanospheres, micro-polyhedrals, microcages and microflowers, were dispersed on the surfaces of the carbon nanosheets in the fabricated composites. After hydrothermal treatment, the carbon nanosheets became thermally more stable, indicating some chemical redox reaction between the silver precursor and carbon materials had occurred.
