Sensors and devices based on modified microstructure optical fibers

Abstract

Fabrication of long period gratings and modal interferometers in air/silica microstructure optical fibers are reported. Applications of these in-fiber devices for wavelength filters, and for strain, temperature, and directional bend sensors are discussed.
