Abstract

Because the electro/magneto-rheological (ER/MR) damper is an adjustable passive damper, when the damper model changes with voltage, the cable-damper system is also varied. Based on this point, a new algorithm appropriate for semi-active control (designated as dynamic-adjust control) of cable vibration is developed in which the time discrete system is considered for model setup, different from the former semi-active vibration control strategies. In the numerical verification, the mathematical model of a 12 m long cable was first built for cable vibration control as numerical example; then the effectiveness of dynamic-adjust control was verified. The developed control algorithm showed more superior performance than the clipped LQG control.
