Abstract

Transportation network is of paramount importance to social and economic activities. Earthquakes could damage the transportation network and disturb the community, resulting in severe consequences. There is a need to assess and understand the seismic performance of transportation network comprehensively. In this chapter, a framework for assessing the seismic performance of transportation network considering uncertainty is presented. Four basic steps including regional probabilistic seismic hazard analysis, vulnerability analysis, traffic analysis, and performance assessment are introduced. The challenges and advances regarding hazard map reduction, surrogate model based vulnerability, and variational post hazard traffic demand are discussed. The seismic performance of transportation network is assessed in terms of risk, sustainability, and resilience. The presented framework could aid the decision making of transportation network considering holistic seismic performance and uncertainty.
