Abstract

Risk-informed performance assessment and updating of fatigue-sensitive systems are gaining increased attention to ensure structural performance and functionality in a life-cycle context. In this paper, a framework for performance assessment and updating of inspected and uninspected fatigue-sensitive details at both component and system level is presented. Uncertainties are incorporated within the computational procedure. Structural failure associated with a given fatigue limit state function is computed and the adverse consequences in terms of rating functions are assessed. Risk-informed performance assessment and updating of fatigue-sensitive structural systems can provide a decision maker with a better understanding of structural performance during the service life.
