Dardess's book, A Ming Society: T'ai-ho County, Kiangsi, in the Fourteenth to Seventeenth Centuries, published by University of Hawaii Press in 1996, which treats the social-intellectual history of the Taihe County in Jiangxi Province in Ming times in the context of the political fortunes and career development of its native litarati.
