Retardation based modulation of polarization ellipticity angle for analog optical space communication

Abstract

A scheme for the modulation of polarization ellipticity angle (PEA) for analog optical space communication was presented. The scheme was based on the modulation of retardation between the two orthogonal polarization states through the use of an electro-optical birefringence crystal. Theoretical analysis showed that the scheme had a high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and good linear response with input modulation voltage.
