Abstract
Over the past decade, there has been a noticeable increase in the use of technology in oral feedback in second language (L2) research. The Covid-19 pandemic has accelerated the development and use of digital technology in feedback provision. This methodological synthesis reviews studies on technology-enhanced oral feedback given to L2 learners. In this chapter, we focus on reviewing the research foci and methodological features of these studies. We searched commonly used databases for studies published over the last 10 years and identified 18 studies on the efficacy of technology-enhanced oral feedback in L2 learning. These studies were conducted using different research designs, such as quantitative and mixed-methods designs; examined a wide range of feedback treatments involving various technologies and feedback types; and used a diverse array of measures to examine various aspects of such feedback. The review concludes with a discussion of methodological and pedagogical implications and provides recommendations for future research.
