Abstract

Sitting posture monitoring is a crucial aspect of health management, offering significant long-term benefits for individual well-being and public health. This article provides a state-of-the-art survey of intelligent sitting posture monitoring systems, which leverage advanced sensors and algorithms to deliver real-time feedback and promote healthier sitting habits. This article uniquely integrates the four critical stages in the design of such systems: data capture, dataset establishment, model construction, and system feedback. Unlike previous fragmented research on isolated aspects, this work addresses the full pipeline, bridging the gap in holistic guidance for establishing intelligent posture monitoring systems. It also summarizes commonly used commercial sensors to guide researchers and practitioners in selecting appropriate solutions for posture monitoring. This comprehensive survey of current methodologies identifies key research gaps and proposes directions for future work to advance health management through the improvement and broad application of intelligent sitting posture monitoring systems.
