Abstract
High-rise building is characterized by its repetitive design in floor plan which is compartmentalized into individual units. The design of high-rise buildings is different from other forms of residential and commercial buildings because of the repetition of construction and the cycle-time for the completion of each floor. This paper describes research that has been carried out to investigate how information modelling and an optimization technique known as Design Structure Matrix, DSM, application can increase the design efficiency of a repetitive high-rise building for both private and publically funded buildings. These benefits are accrued for both ’first generation’ and subsequent ’repeat’ buildings. In addition to helping to eliminate ’waste’ within the design process the techniques contribute to the elimination of waste within the construction process by eliminating.
