Abstract

The syntheses and crystal structures of two ferrocene-conjugated polypyridine ligands (6-ferrocenyl-2, 2′-bipyridyl (fcbpy) and 4′ -ferrocenyl-2, 2′, 6′, 2″-terpyridine (fctpy) )and Mn(II) complex of fctpy(1) were described in this work. The electrochemical investigations of two ligands reveal that substitution of the polypyridyl group onto ferrocene causes a positive shift in the redox potential of ferrocene unit and the comparison of the structures of the complex 1 and free ligand fctpy shows that introduction of Mn(II) ion into the ligand does not significantly influence the structure of the ligand.
