Reactions of SmI2(THF)xwith [Cp′Mo(CO)3]2Hg (Cp′ = C5H-5or C5Me-5)

Abstract

The reactions of SmI2(THF)xwith [Cp′Mo(CO)3]2Hg (Cp′ = C5H-5or C5Me-5) in THF at ambient temperature have been investigated. In the case of [(C5H5)Mo(CO)3]2Hg, a new complex of [(THF)4I2Sm( μ-OC)Mo(CO)2(C5H5)] 1 was afforded. However, in the reaction involving [(C5Me5)Mo(CO)3]2Hg the analog cannot be obtained, but instead the dimeric [(C5Me5)Mo(CO)3]22. Both complexes 1 and 2 have been characterized by X-ray crystallography. In 1 the cooperative activation of CO between Sm3+and Mo was observed. The structure of complex 1 is the first example containing the "Sm( μ-OC)Mo" fragment.
