Abstract

The article discusses the content of Qiu Jun's (1421-1495) primer of Zhu Xi (1130-1200) thought and learning, titled Zhuzi xuedi (goal and aim of Zhu Xi's learning) , based on excerpts from Zhu's works and assesses it in the context of learning of Zhu Xi's philosophy, personality and classical exegesis from late Song to early Ming times. Qiu's primer exemplified a serious effort to an in-depth understanding of Zhu Xi as the greatest Confucian after Confucius in 15th-century China.
