Abstract

The focus of this presentation is on the complexity of the type of communication done in public health messages as well as the way in which power and knowledge sharing are imbalanced in these communicative interactions. Public health messages can be considered a distinct genre of communication in terms of their purpose and structure. Message designers need to draw on authority and expertise in the presentation of information so that people who view the messages are motivated to take often complex actions in their daily lives.
