N1 - Funding Information:
The “Support Programme for Service-Learning Action Research” was established under CoP-SLHE to promote an evidence-based, critically reflective approach to teaching service-learning. Applications were sought from the four participating institutions for teachers who were interested in conducting action research in their service-learning subjects. The funded projects were supported with small grants to conduct research to investigate a particular issue in their SL subjects, and the impact of a proposed intervention.
Funding Information:
This work is financially supported by the Hong Kong University Grants Council through the project “Cross-institutional Capacity Building for Service-Learning in Hong Kong Higher Education Institutions” (PolyU4/T&L/16–19), Li and Fung Endowed Professorship and a Research Matching Fund from the Hong Kong University Grants Council. Address all correspondence to Daniel T.L. Shek, Department of Applied Social Sciences, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

N2 - Compared to the West, Service-Learning (SL) in higher education institutions is at its infancy in Hong Kong. To promote Service-Learning in different higher education institutions in Hong Kong, we initiated an cross-institutional project to build up SL capacity in colleagues several universities in Hong Kong. In this chapter, we outline the objectives, nature of collaboration, and achievements of this project. Some reflections based on the project, such as challenges and difficulties in cross-institutional collaboration in SL activities and well-being of SL teachers are highlighted. Finally, the future development of SL and its possible contribution to the well-being of different stakeholders in Hong Kong and other parts of China are discussed.
