Abstract

Several studies in the hospitality field have analyzed academic journals to assess trends and suggest future directions of research. Despite its economic significance and rapid growth rate, convention tourism has received relatively little research attention. Furthermore, very little analysis has been conducted on the content of articles that examined this important industry sector. The purpose of this study is to determine the progress in convention tourism research to date by utilizing a content analysis on published articles in 14 academic journals, with the aim of identifying focus areas and providing future research directions.
