Abstract

Professional communication spans various disciplines, making it a valuable and interesting area for investigation. However, its inclusiveness makes it difficult to find a one‐size‐fits‐all definition. It can, furthermore, be approached from different perspectives, often leading to different conclusions and implications. Currently, despite broad exploration from different perspectives, little research is being done to systematically review and streamline previous studies. This entry aims to review the concepts closely related to professional communication, hoping to provide a clearer view of the term. The discussion features a summary of studies of professional communication in various disciplines and of specific communicative elements in professional communication as viewed from linguistic and social perspectives.
