Abstract
Platformization is gathering pace because it is capable ofrestructuring the value creation process for ecosystems.Despite its merits, the failure rate of platformization isalarming for incumbents because it demands collectivecommitment from ecosystem partners who are already intri-cately connected due to their embeddedness in pre-existingvalue networks. Consequently, the question of how incum-bents can prepare for platformization has attracted atten-tion from both academics and practitioners alike. Byconducting multiple case studies of three distinct ecosys-tems that have successfully embraced platformization, wearrive at three separate process patterns of preparation forecosystem platformization that elucidate the dimensions oforganisational readiness required of the initiating firm andits partners. Particularly, we delineate between shared read-iness and situated readiness, each with its own constituentsub-dimensions underlying ecosystems' preparedness forplatformization
