Abstract

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) are widely used in various areas, but most of them lack structural health monitoring (SHM) system to evaluate the structural performance and detect potential structural failures. This work demonstrates a vibration-based SHM for UAVs through analyzing structural failures, developing vibration measurement modules and allocating them onto aerial vehicles. The flight testing was carried out and vibration analysis was implemented. Results showed that vibration data could demonstrate the potential mechanical assembly faults, and provide reference for mechanical resonance evaluation and vibration isolation system design. This preliminary experimental work inspires a further SHM research for UAVs.
